Actor. Dancer. Doctor. Dreamer. Nice ass. These and other random assortments of letters and punctuation can only begin to describe the Greatness that is Jason Chan (but not this other Jason Chan, although I'm sure that other guy has a very nice bottom, indeed). Born in Malaysia, Jason moved to Perth, Australia with his family when he was five years old. As a child, he learned how to play piano and alto sax, and performed in school plays, including the lead in "Salad Days".
He entered medical school at the University of Western Australia, a decision inspired by medical shows including "St. Elsewhere" and a love of science. During this time, Jason continued to pursue the creative arts, studying ballet, contemporary dance, and jazz ballet at the Academy of Performing Arts, Western Australia. After graduating, Jason worked as a General Practitioner for a few years, but the acting bug simply would not be silenced.
Giving in to aforementioned acting bug, Jason enrolled in the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). As a student at NIDA he appeared in the plays "Richard III", "Sunday in the Park with George", and the musical "Kiss Me, Kate", among other theatrical works. After graduating in 2001, he hosted Disney Channel Australia's "Playhouse Disney Australia", a children's series. He also starred in the play "Connie and Kevin and the Secret Life of Groceries", and appeared in television commercials in Singapore.
Jason made his American television debut playing the roles of "Cam" and "Cyber Cam" in "Power Rangers Ninja Storm". After Power Rangers, he made numerous appearances on Singaporean television shows, including "Life", "MTV Rogue", "Six Weeks", and "My Sassy Neighbor". He hosted a wellness education series called "Stress Out" with Rosalind Pho. On stage, he recently scored the lead role of "Chris" in the Singaporean musical "The Admiral's Odyssey". He was (very...*very*...) briefly seen in the American movie "Stealth", directed by Rob Coen. He will be soon featured in the Singaporean movies "Leap of Love" and "House of Harmony", and the Australian movie "Candy" starring Geoffrey Rush and Heath Ledger.
Jason has helped pave the way for future actors to pursue their dreams. With fellow NIDA-alum Anna Torv, he developed A Different Corner's ProActor course, an introductory course in acting. Other development work has included associations with Asian-Australian arts group Aha Productions and Theatre 4A. He has also made appearances as a celebrity judge for ADC's "Kick Up The Dust" band and dance competition, a showcase for young Australian talent.
The Greatness Himself will allegedly sell his body for $20-$30 if ever strapped for cash. One hopes that this is a legally binding statement...
...assuming the fine (?) folks at Rangerboard weren't just taking the piss out of me.
